APRIL FEST

The April Fest at the Village was introduced about ten years ago, when the first twenty homes were built. An Open Day was held to showcase the first completed residences to the public and was so popular that it was decided to hold this event again the next year, and the rest is history. The name was changed to April Fest approximately five years ago, thus giving the Open Day its own identity.

flagsThough it is a great fundraiser for the Village, the main purpose of having this celebration each year is to give the public the chance to witness the wonderful efforts the management, staff and Board of Directors give to our residents, to make their senior years as comfortable and worry free as possible.

It is also a wonderful opportunity for the residents to showcase their home and surrounds to family and friends, and enjoy a relaxing and entertaining day with them, with good old Dutch cuisine and coffee, cake and drinks. All the favourites, such as poffertjes, oliebollen, herring, paling, huzaren salade, croquettes etc are on offer during the day – and let’s not forget the Heineken and Grolsch!

The volunteers who work to make this day successful each year are proud that on every occasion enough funds are raised to purchase some much needed “extras” for the Village in order to increase the comfort of the residents. Many residents and staff are also involved in the multiple tasks required to run the day smoothly, and all enjoy the opportunity to contribute.

HugoWith the great food, entertainment and festive atmosphere this day has become one of the most important yearly events, not only in the local area, but especially amongst the Dutch in Queensland. We hope to continue the tradition for many more years to come, so if you have never been, this year is your chance. Mark APRIL 22nd, 2012 on your calendar and join us for a day of good food, good company, and lots of catching up with old friends.
